Which side do you put your tax disc? Does the law state it has to be the bottom left hand corner of the windscreen? If you don't have it in the BLH corner, have you ever had a brush with the law?

Andy, the road tax disc should be displayed on the nearside of your windscreen, the idea being the police & traffic wardens etc. would walk along the pavement & able to check car tax discs were in-date without having to walk out onto the road. For whatever reason some people in the 70's used to put their tax discs on the top middle of the windscreen probably before the days of the windscreen suntint being standard. I'd imagine if the disc is on the offside you'd get a ticket from those "revenue earning street patrol persons"

Yeah, i thought as much, and i do have mine on the nearside. But is it that clear cut? I noticed from photos of shows i've taken quite a few american car owners have their disc on the offside and i was interested in their experiences. Assuming the law about the nearside came about in view of the majority of cars on British roads being RHD i wondered if there was any special case or 'grey area' regarding LHD similar to the registration plate situation we now have, after all from a safety point of view it would be better to have the disc on the offside of a LHD car so as not to obscure the field of view. Also a quick search of www.direct.gov.uk (http://www.direct.gov.uk) states that you should 'Display a tax disc on the passenger side (kerb side)' which is a contradiction and ambiguous for LHD vehicles. Is the emphasis on the passenger side or the kerb side? I would argue it was the passenger side with kerb side added in parenthesis for clarification. I dunno though

personally i have mine on the passenger side, but largely that's cos it has a magnetic holder, which was already fitted when i bought it.

i'd imagine 99.99% of police and wardens won't bother, but you'll always get that little hitler who'll take you to the letter of the law.

just curious, why do you ask ?

Just because i have a huge tax disc holder on the drivers side and i was thinking about moving it to the passenger side, and having noticed in a few photos that some people have them there wondered what their experiences were. Just curious really :).

Had a pull for exactly this before!

Changed it back to the offside as soon as I drove off though :D
