Here's a suggestion..

How about a forum purely for the kids? "Rodsnkids" :)

I seen quite a few young 'uns around at shows and I know some of you have your own, so how about a forum purely for them sos they can shoot the breeze, share dreams and generally get it on with likeminded buddies.

We all like this stuff, and so do the kids and they are the future of hotrodding, so why not encourage them to join in?

thanks for coming back Stevel.

and thanks for posting, this is going to sound pretty negative, I hope thats okay. you've made me think about things.

if I am honest, i want to keep my kids off the internet as much as possible. And I was speaking to folk at Ray's Doughnut run about the fact that forums have affected the "traditional" club face-to-face meet.

Before anyone jumps in, yes, the internet helps us *all* keep in contact -which is excellent too.

I do think "fresh blood" is the way forward, and strongly believe that we really need to find the folk who are "keen but shy", and help them join the gang. I'm a 100% A1 nut-job, and have been made very welcome.

On that note... I am trying to think how to net some new people (off the top of my head):
1. sticky post / link "Want to know all about buying/owning a rod/yank?" that is prominent on this site

2. big effort to get more scottish features in the magazines -most weeks folk here post up pictures/art that is as good, if not much better, than the magazines' --just need a few words around it and email it in?

3. get cards printed with xmembers fourm details / local club contacts for us all to hand out

4. "bring a pal" day out?

5. get an article in the local paper to encourage folk to a cruise?

6. get in touch with local colleges doing "car maintenance" type courses and see if we can show our motors one night and get some interest? (might pick a load of wimen that way?)

7. the film American Graffiti will be 40years old in 2013 --do something for that? It was set in 1962 -next year will be the 50th anniversary of 1962

8. the film Smokey and the Bandit will be 35 years old next year -do something for that?

Totally cool, Danny, ...some good stuff there to think about.

One of my guys at work is well into off road bikes and such and has a kid who is nuts about quads. His problem is that he has no-one to blether to online about it as most of the forums for that are used by older guys.

It occurred to me ages ago as I watched a fellow car owners kids sitting in my Corvette totally mind blown and asking me all kinds of stuff. Those boys were keen as mustard and well into hotrods. I just thought that it was a shame they had no outlet for it other than hanging with their dad at shows or reading magazines.

In the '60's I used to read the old US Rod and Custom magazine hidden behind my jotters at school. I would have loved to have had someone to share it all with but the few guys who did like cars only had eyes for Rally type vehicles.

At the NEC Classic Show last year, you could take a ride in a car of any kind out for a few miles for a tenner in the charity bucket. It was queued out with kids of all ages..

Dear Mr. Fisher,

You've really put some thought into this - I am seriously impressed!

I also totally agree we need to 'market' ourselves better to bring fresh blood into the arena (not necessarily 'young' blood either :) )

So I do agree we need to get our thinking caps on and work towards this together - I feel a committee coming on ..... :)

tina x

BTW - some of us 'wimen' might be looking to attract some 'men' ya know ..... :) - if you know any please kindly introduce them .....

X-members already has a large registration membership. Maybe it needs to turn into a club or association and have its own events to progress further and embrace all, or at least most members..

Dunfermline/Edinburgh?

Wonder how X-members are spread out geographically? Maybe something a bit more central might encourage more to turn out.

KFC/Edinburgh is a 150mile round trip for me alone.

every-so-often there's a post about moving the meet to a different place.

but, that's tricky when all the publicity says we meet in Edin/Dunf.

It's a shame there's no regular meets through west. Maybe worth seeing how many west coast folk would be up for arranging one?

As for all of us, we could maybe think about a joint one somewhere in the middle every few months or so... just my 2p. :)

Good call Stu..

Doesn't need to be a joint one though as Xmembers is just Xmembers, there's no east, west, north or south.

Wish there was a way to ascertain just how we're all located around Scotland and maybe have one or more meets that suit different locations.

A possible way forward would be to start using the Corvette meets on the last Sunday of the month at the M8 Showcase.

Hey Steve, speaking for the Nitroscots we are all mostly out West except me in Falkirk and Richard in east lothian.

We do our best to meet all year coz we are all daily drivers and also luv to play in the snow lol :)

We would love to get involved on a face to face basis but I find it hard to get our guys to come out and play as quite a few work shifts etc however our numbers are growing steadily.

I thought the Eglinton show was great as there were quite a few clubs/cars/trucks/bikes etc all represented and everyone was mixing really well after all we all have a common luv !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

we can have a chat Sunday if I get ma brakes all done on Saturday

F.Y.I We have invite cards on the Nitroforumz that most of us carry and stick on windscreens etc with a members name on inviting you to join, they seem to work as well, in fact we have been known to chase a Nitro down lol we might get arrested one day:)

Members can access them on the forum and simply print them out

.

I'm afraid you are wrong there, given the types of cars we drive, petrol costs and consumption make Scotland a large place.

There is already a very good meet in Edinburgh and in my opinion there is no logic in moving that. However getting interest and building the west coast pool could only be a good thing!

Who said anything about moving?

If you read the Xmembers statement on the home page, you'll see that this is a Scottish forum, and not specifically centred on any one location. Granted there is more activity in the east, but it has been mentioned before on here several times that Xmembers needs to 'attract fresh blood'.

(...jump in here anytime Andy!)

What we would like to happen is to have another, extra meeting elsewhere to encompass others who have registered, but for the very reasons you stated, are unable to or unwilling, to make the long trip east. No one, least of all me would support a move to relocate anyone, anywhere.

If we have learned one thing from past club activity (..I'm aware that Xmembers is not a club) is that unity is the keyword and when clubs split for whatever reason, they get smaller and vanish.

Bob summed it up nicely earlier...

There are only a finite number of Rod/costom/American events in Scotland, EVERYBODY needs to get behind them, irrespective of affiliation, then the scene there could be as healthy as it seems to be here.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but seemed to be what you were asking in your other post.

There's been talk of an alternative venue to KFC, and attracting more Xmembers, so how about it?

And I'm not against fresh blood either, as a 26 year old female, the fresher the better!

stevel98

Excuse my grammar, I only meant an extra meeting, elsewhere, ...trying to move a well established one would not be good. :)

...all this talk of blood, reminds me of 'The little old lady from Transylvania' on my new (old) Shutdown LP, ...MUHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

"....my car is painted bright poison apple red, with pipes loud enough to wake up the dead!"

Spot on Steve, it is at the end of the day a Scotland wide forum, myself and Steve set it up to promote the Club activities and events for all of Scotland. At the beginning it was conceived to be a sort of loose association of Scottish clubs and this forum was set up merely as a tool to support the free flow and exchange of information for that aim, hence XMembers or Cross-members as in cross-club, that and the fact that principle people involved in the beggining were ex-members of the Fife County Cruisers.

It's an interesting point to note as well, there are no xmembers meets whatsoever, this site only promotes events that others kindly put hard work into organising, and we don't wish to take credit for them or draw a distinction between north south east and west. The KFC Edinburgh meet is an Ill-Eagles event and KFC Dunfermline (and previously Kirkcaldy) was set up by Derek Stewart. So if someone is organising an event in your area, like the Corvette/Gas Guzzlers meet its great that people like you Steve are gonna pick it up and try to promote it and drum up interest and that is exactly what this forum is for!

It the very beggining there was only ever two xmembers meetings, in the summer of 2006. One at the Snooty Fox in Glenrothes, and the second at the Marmalade Pot in Dundee. After that interest wained and the main clubs involved at the time didn't see the value in it. Myself and Steve have discussed arranging an Xmembers event in several formats and we may do something in the future, however we want to do something 'different' instead of just cruising/burning out or standing around in a car park eating fast food. We have a few ideas some practical and interesting and some skating pretty close to the wind leaglly, but good fun, so who knows there may be something in the future.
