View Full Version : Xmembers barbe-cruise?

Guys,

This is just a query to gauge general interest but given the amount of new members joining the site and the amount of Rods/Yanks/Customs around at the moment I was wondering if it wouldn't be a bad idea one Saturday or Sunday in the Summer to organise a Barbe-cruise?

The rough format (it's been done before) would be two seperate groups meeting at both the Forth Road Bridge and Tay Road Bridge car-parks (whichever is nearer to you) and both groups cruising to a destination in Fife (mid-point) to park up and meet n' greet with a burger thrown in along the way?

Like everything else it'll take a bit of organising (volunteers/dates/venues etc) and maybe a contribution of a couple of quid to make it happen but if there's enough interest then it'd be a good day and a great way to put faces to names.

Failing which we could all log-on at the same time and have a virtual cruise/meet on-line - not. ;-)

Over to you guys.....................

Sounds like a cunning plan - can't make June 9th - 24th though.

Any ideas for a venue Steve? Shall i start putting together a flyer?

Andy,

Glad to see there's interest. Yes, a flyer would be a great idea.

As for venue, all suggestions are welcome. Subject to numbers there's the grass bit at the Gilvenbank (or is that still there?), or any decent-sized car park or field where we can park up - The Lomond Centre, around the all-weather stuff at Glenrothes Juniors FC's ground, Leven Beach car park with a burger/snack van there, Craigtoun Park by St Andrews, Beveridge Park in Kirkcaldy etc.

It'd be nice to get as many as possible as there's a lot of people on the Xmembers site that we don't know from any other car clubs but equally well it would be good to get all clubs involved with Xmembers stuff too so there's a good turn-out and more people for the "new" guys to meet and more cars to see. This forum has really opened my eyes as to what/who is out there that we weren't aware of.

Cheers,

Steve

Steve, I think they're gonna build flats on the grass bit at the Gilvenbank Hotel, heres a thought, how about Anstruther for fish and chips? First annual X-Members cruise "A Very Fishy Affair". I'll start thinking about a flyer, i think you should make this thread a sticky! ;)

Me no understand, what's a "sticky"?

Pins it to the top of the forum and keeps it there (it's an admin privilege). At the top of the thread click "Thread Tools" => mark "stick thread" => "Perform Action".

I spoke with Ally Carrie about this today & he said that there are plans for a BBQ in Fife, possibly Tentsmuir, on Sunday 13th April. Might be an idea for Steve Wilson & Andy Dean to have a chat with Ally & Neil from the Tayside American Cruisers & see if we can make a go of that date. Am sure we can have more than just the one BBQ this year just in case folks think it may be too early in the show season?

Boyd,

That's fine but I had in the back of my mind a potential date somewhere around late August/early September. Mainly due to there being more cars on the road, more time to organise it and (most importantly) a "statistically" better chance of a good-weather day.

Feel free to post something about the BBQ in April though.

cheers,

Steve

Around sunday 24th or sunday 31st of August then? Bearing in mind that the 24th is the weekend after Kyle.

Andy,

Ideally the 24th I suppose but we better double-check that there's no other runs/shows on that weekend.

Hopefully anyone reading this will drop a quick reply to say whether or not the 24th of August is good for them - gives us plenty of time to confirm venue etc - and t get our cars on the road. ;)

Cheers,

Steve

Steve,

24th suits me. Only other show on that weekend is the Autospirit, formerly Callander Classics, at Culzean Castle, Turnberry, Ayrshire.

Was never a big turn out of Yanks or Rods at this, which seemed a shame as its a cracking venue ! See album for pics. http://www.culzeanautoclassica.com/12.html

Andy,

Doesn't matter what I think chaps, this is a democracy - it's up to the members; or should that be Xmembers?!? :D

If the 24th August suits the majority then lets do it.

Guys, it would be nice if people who took the time to view this thread also left a quick bit of feedback as to whether or not they fancy a barbe-cruise and if the 24th August is a date that suits the majority.

I really want to organise a Poker Run next year just for nostalgia but let's start with a barbe-cruise and see what happens.................

Same here, you may have to approach Fife council if you want to have a BBQ at St Andrews beach...something to do with problems in the past with drunken students having BBQ's & leaving a right old mess behind.

Last time we did a BBQ there was back in 2000 with the iLL Eagles AC. Some photos can be seen at http://www.ill-eagle.co.uk/old_ill-eagle_site/days_out.htm
