View Full Version : Trailer hire?

Well after working out the fuel costs to drive the coupe down to Billing and back from Edinburgh, I've decided to hire a trailer and tow the car instead.

I was looking forward to the trip down, but with an original (small) Model A fuel tank, running a hemi that's averaging 15mpg, and fuel touching £1.40 a litre, it's going to be a nightmare doing a 700 mile round trip.

So no comments please about the car being a fecking trailer queen!!

PS. Is there anyone close to me that has a car trailer they would hire me from 2nd --> 6th June ??

Cheers
Mark

It's a good drive down to Billing, had both trans ams down, think my 79 averaged 19mpg for the 700 miles, didn't think that was too bad.

That was 2yrs ago so fuel was a bit cheaper suppose.

Cheers Andy on the recovery thing. Hopefully they'll get back to you soon coz I could do with getting it asap. I'm not fussed about discount, it was more you getting some commission out of it.

And I got rid of the Golf and bought another shed with a towbar, a shitty Mondeo ST24

Mark, if you are insured through the NSRA scheme they have breakdown cover for an extra £30. That's what got me home from Billing when the fuel pump on the truck packed in.
Only took it out on the preceding Wednesday too. Good service.

Good shout Ross, my insurance is due on 9th June so I'll get a quote and see how it compares to my Adrian Flux renewal + aa breakdown.

Not sure if this is too far away for you but i gave them a call and they are £45 per day plus VAT, or if you take it for 5 days they would do it for £40 per day plus VAT.

mark when you buy breakdown cover make sure the company will bring you home if you break down, some of them will now only take you 10 miles or to the nearest garage for a fix. we only found this out recently with RAC when we broke down 20 miles from home and they refused to take us home. we are going to move from RAC this year for the daily. coupe is with classicline via NSRA and they give you free recovery with their policy - ive also found these guys cheaper than AF.

£32 extra for breakdown cover with Flux, I just re-insured my car with them for £152 all in, Fully comp everything declared plus legal and home start and Europe wide breakdown cover(not that I'll ever need that:) ), thought that was no bad seeing as it was £150 just for the insurance 4 years ago:cool:

Wow, that's a cracking deal mate.
Going to call them tomorrow and then call ClassicLine and compare.
