Attach a lot of pics taken by our camera to emails that I send to our daughter who is working in China. Just to keep her up to date with family events etc.
I am running Windows XP and normally use MSN for everything. My addy is ends in msn.com.
Anyhoo, this problem just started last night for no apparent reason ?
When I go to attach the pics and pres the attachment link, I always use "compress photos" Normally you can get around fifty with no problems, however, last night it popped up the information bar which read the following;

"Internet Explorer has blocked this site from using an ActiveX control in an un safe manner. As a result, this pagemight not display correctly."

Normally when this appears you click the bar and you can allow it to run, but not this time ! It says on a drop down menu after you click it;
Whats the risk.
Information bar help
Tried all sorts, tools, internet options, security, including enabling automatic in the ActiveX but all to no avail, still cant compress and attach pics. Never done this before ?
Only change is we purchased a new camera, just a more modern model of the one we have, a Fuji, using the Finepix software, which came supplied with it. Even tried installing the old software back on, but still no worky ? Any ideas ??

I would guess that you have upgraded to IE8 since the last time you did this.

If you click on the 'What's the risk' link it will bring up another pop-up window that will explain the risks involved. There should be two options at the bottom. From memory one is continue to block (or something like that) the other is accept the risk and carry on.

If you select the carry on option it should then work as expected.

Thats what normally appears, but not this time, it aint giving me the choice ?

I'm not on my computer just now but if you can send me a link too the site I will check it out. I have various security options set up in my browser that can analyse a site before our opens.

Cheers

Bear in mind I am a computer numpty, unsure of what site you refer too ?
I am using the facility in place with Hotmail to attach and compress multiple pics to an email. And now its informing me I cant do it due to ActiveX wanting to run an unsafe thingy !
I will try a system restore to a fortnight ago and try that, will let you know.

Hi Alan,

If it is an ActiveX component here's how to fix it.

I assume you are using Internet Explorer 8, although it is the same for most versions of IE.

Open Internet Explorer.

Click on Tools then Internet Options.

In the window that open up select the Security tab.

Near the bottom of that window is a button marked Custom Level, select this.

A new window opens. You need to scroll through the information on this window to look for the following.

Under the heading ActiveX Controls and Plug-Ins you need to make two changes.

The option under Download unsigned ActiveX controls should be changed to Prompt.

The option under Initialise and Script ActiveX Controls not marked as safe for scripting should be changed to Prompt.

Close Internet Explorer and reopen it. When you try to use Hotmail the next time it should now prompt you with the choice to run the ActiveX control or not.

Hope this helps.

If you can't get it after this, let me know.

PTGeo !

You are a star mate ! I cant thank you enough !:worship::worship:

Tried a system restore and it was still the same.

Carried out your instructions to the letter and it gives me the option of running the programme or not. Click on yes and it works a treat.:D
Any ideas why it would just start and do that ?

Thanks again, and I am in your debt, I owe you one fella !!

Of course I know why it happened.

Microsoft screwed with the security. They locked it down to try and prevent unsigned ActiveX controls from running rather than fix Internet Explorer.

One of the advantages of working in IT, in both my real Monday to Friday job and my own business, there aren't many issues that I haven't come across.

Glad to hear it's all working now.
