think i'll just put it off the road after that, and leave the alternator till spring. don't think i'll use it over winter anyway.

talked to chris cockburn last night, he reckons he's got one, if not, it shouldn't be much trouble getting one.

it's a fairly standard fitment. actually got a feeling it's a mini one on it, it's never quite been big enough.

won't use it till april anyway. might have some paintwork to patch up this winter

Well, had the car out today and its running rough as Feck, wont tick over, stinking of petrol, black soot out the back, missfiring, backfiring, plugs sooted up:mad:

Carbs off, going to have a look at it tomorrow, all going well Ill see you guys tomorrow night, really need to get a new carb as its never been right.

Cruise was good and it was quite a warm night :) It was also nice to meet Gordon and Andy Park at last!

Gonna have to win in the lottery soon, I feel embarrassed showing up in a car where the only part made of steel is the bonnet ;d

got alternators to trial fit too.

still not sure about edinburgh, will make my decision nearer the time, will see what the weather's like.

been at the cougar all day, either the alternator i got from chris is dead too, or there's something a bit more wrong than just the alternator !!

seems to run for 10 minutes, then just stop, hard to say if it's charging, because my meter is crap !!

need to buy a new meter and mess about with it during the week.
might need to take the old alt to a scrappy to get one which fits !!

i hate cars !

ok, latest cougar update, after doing some extensive online research, it seems likely that the previous owner has done a way with the voltage regulator, in favour of a regulated alternator, so chris' cleveland alt was working, it was just unregulated, which would explain erratic meter readings !!

gonna have another go at it this aft, gonna see if i can make a bracket to mke the essex alt fit, then fingers crossed...........

also found an old part worn michelin which i'll stick on the back, just in case the fog comes down.........................;)
