We used to have loads of members on our bike site, but like here there was the hardcore who contributed. I sent all members an email asking if they still wished to participate, and binned all those who did not reply. I've been through this exercise a couple of times, and I feel it keeps folk more focused - a reminder if you like.

Yeah, i installed a module which sends you a "We Miss You" e-mail if you don't log in for 6 months, also the e-mail tells you how you can delete your account if you no longer want to be a member or opt out of future mails. I think some folk just ignore them tho... well apart from one idiot who obviously didn't/couldn't/refused to read the email and replied with "PLEASE REMOVE ME FROM YOUR MAILING LIST" in red 72pt bold capitals  despite all the info on how to being in the e-mail, muppet, lol!

I'm actually giving serious thought to going down this route now.

Iv'e been looking into the user lists and have been really surprised by the amount of users who have never posted and have not logged in for more than a year. I've really gotta ask myself is it worth trying to keep in touch with them or just deleting them
