Welcome To The New Look X-Members Website

Welcome to the new look site!

There have been lots of changes both visually and to the underlying systems which the site relies on.

Firstly you'll notice that the old navigation menu to the left is gone. You can now browse through the entire site using the blue buttons in the Navigation Bar at the top of each page, all the usual pages can be found there or in the drop down menus available by selecting those buttons.

The site has moved away from a shared hosting platform to it's own Virtual Private Server, this should mean that the scripts will execute far quicker and pages should load sooner than the have been doing, also there should be less instances of the dreaded "Internet Explorer Cannot Display the Webpage" errors.

As a result of the server move i have now been able to tinker with a few of the server settings that were unavailable to me before. Previously the image processing (resizing etc) for the image gallery was performed by the GD2 library, this used memory allocated to PHP, which was limited, and henceforth the gallery software used to fall over regularly when uploading large photos. The solution to this at the time was to limit photo uploads to one at a time. The gallery is now running on software called imagemagick which does not have the memory requirements of GD2, so from now on you will be able to upload multiple, larger, photos.

Over the three years i've been running the site i've deleted nearly 650 spammers who have registered, largely from China and Latvia, the IP addresses from these countries are now banned from posting (woohoo ).

Thanks for reading my ramble and enjoy the new look site.
